NNFP Leadership Development Program Seeking Scholarship Donations

After last year's Leadership for the Long Haul program proved so successful and transformative, NNFP decided to conduct another program in 2010, involving two leadership retreats, ongoing coaching, and development of a peer support network.

We are looking for individuals and organizations to make donations and sponsorships to allow us to have a scholarship fund for participants who cannot otherwise afford to go.

Learn more about the program at NNFP Leadership Program

15 Participants have been selected to participate in the program. Currently we are raising scholarship funds for the $8,350 of scholarships that are needed by the participants. To grant needed scholarships we need to raise this amount in donations by Summer. Several pledges have been made, but we encourage members do donate what they can. One board member donated a full tuition scholarship of $600, and other donations are rolling in.

To donate you can go to www.nnfp.org and click "Donate Now".

NNFP and our Sustainable Woods Network covered in Treehugger.com during Green Build

Treehugger.com is a leading site among "green consumers", with 1.6 million visitors/month.

NNFP Visits Montana for Outreach and Communications Project

As part of a Conservation Innovation Grant received by the Swan Ecosystem Center, members of NNFP's team visited the Swan Valley to conduct interviews and shoot photos for a series of landowner profiles which will be used for outreach to landowners in the Valley. Out of this trip we also hope to develop business and organizational profiles that tell the story of folks working for sustainable forestry and rural livelihoods.

This project is part of a growing body of work that NNFP is undertaking to communicate stories of sustainable forestry rural job creation.

NNFP Partners with Rainforest Alliance and Blue Ridge Forest Cooperative for booth at Green Festival in DC!

Harry Groot of BRFC, Lisa Stocker of Rainforest Alliance, and Colin Donohue of NNFP staffed a booth, talking to thousands of "green consumers" about the upcoming launch of the Sustainable Woods Network, the forest landcare activities (and wood products...) of BRFC, and FSC certification. The booth was an outgrowth of a collaboration of several partners in the Central Appalachian region focused on marketing of sustainably produced wood products.

Storytelling as a tool for outreach and engagement of landowners

Over the last year, NNFP has been partnering with the Swan Ecosystem Center (SEC) in Condon, Montana to develop a strategy to connect with, inform, and engage new landowners in the Swan Valley region. Land in the Swan Valley has undergone ownership changes in recent years that include—like many other places around the country—some second-homeowners and r… Continue

NNFP visits the Northwest woods

I visited Montana last week with a videographer who has been doing some work with NNFP to interview landowners in the Swan Valley and to begin work on developing some multimedia pieces to use as tools for communicating with and engaging landowners in forest stewardship practices. I'll share more about that in the next day or two, and we'll be posting some high-quality photos as they are formatted. For now I wanted to share these photos I took of a recent tour hosted by NNFP member NorthSlope Sus… Continue

A Day in History

Few will have the greatness to bend history itself; but each of us can work to change a small portion of events, and in the total of all those acts will be written the history of this generation.

While these words were said more than fourty years ago, they resonated today as I watched the inauguration of a new president and his first public address, and heard clearly the role NNFP members and supporters need to have in the restoration of our economy and ecosystems.
